This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My school is a Title I school with all of the students receiving free lunch. Over 80% of our students rely on school buses for transportation. My students range from 9th to 12th grade and many of them do not have a place to go after school.

I teach Accounting.

My students have been affected by financial problems that their families face. They have taken a special interest in my class as a result.

My students will be expose to many forms of finance this year and years to come. This will benefit the students, their families, and the community. The more they learn about finance the better they will be financially.

My Project

This project is designed to provide students with a foundation for understanding the accounting cycle through a spiraling, interactive process. The steps of this project progress incrementally, beginning with teacher demonstrations of the accounting cycle as students follow along. This is quickly followed by guided practice to increase students’ competence. Next, students practice the process independently with as little assistance as necessary. Finally, students practice accounting independently while playing Monopoly.

Students will have fun leaning the principles of accounting while playing Monopoly.

Monopoly serves a dual purpose; first, it provides motivation and material to learn the accounting cycle and subsequent analysis, and second, game results generate the business transactions required in the culminating project.
