My students need a large assortment of materials and equipment to successfully learn and participate in the AP Environmental Science classroom and ultimately the AP exam.
College is getting more expensive every year. My students are hoping that my class will give them a better chance at making an accepted grade on the AP Environmental Science exam and therefore cut a few hours from their overall tuition.
My students are your normal high school juniors and seniors.
They attend an academically successful high school. Many participate in multiple extra-curricular activities. Many of the students in this class will be female. They and other minorities are the primary focus as they are underrepresented in STEM classes. However, this class will have a mixture of all types of students.
My Project
The materials that I am requesting are to be used for both field work and classroom use. We will be taking various environmental measurements on the water, air and soil throughout the city. In order to reach more than just my current students, I am also requesting equipment and software that will allow me to record video notes and lectures (flipped classroom). The iPad minis will allow the students a chance to due research in class or watch topic videos. They also sync with the probeware when doing testings. The mimiovotes will decrease the amount of time that it takes to grade quizzes and tests. The software will also allow me to target strengths and weaknesses of the students. The camera and other equipment will be used to slowdown or speedup various experiments and capture fieldwork.
The aim of the AP Environmental Science class is to have students learn about the world around them.
These materials will allow them to make their own decisions about how or why the planet is functioning the way it is. These materials are to be used to enlighten the students and allow them to make better choices. They also allow me to spend more time discussing topics with the students instead of lengthy lectures and lab setups. This project may also help my students to be successful enough in my science class to qualify for college scholarships.
