My Students

I primarily work with students in a K-6 school (with a few preschoolers in the mix) with speech &/or language issues in Flint, Michigan. These children try hard and have heavy burdens on them but want to learn and achieve. They may become frustrated, but they don't give up. They deserve so much more than they are able to get. For some of them, the help and attention they get at school may be the only positive adult experience they have in a day.

My Project

With this iPad, my students will be more engaged, as well as being able to self-monitor by recording themselves in communication situations. This will help my students with sound production (articulation) issues, stuttering problems and voice concerns. I will download apps (some free, and hopefully eventually get some financing to purchase some) to allow the students to participate in games to develop language skills such as following directions, vocabulary skills, sequencing, comprehension etc.

I have used an iPad previously in another school district, and it increased the students' participation, desire to learn and ability to hear and see what others were hearing and seeing, allowing them to analyze what we saw and heard rather than what how they thought it was coming out.
