Monitoring Air Quality at PCHS

My students need a three-week rental of AQTreks personal air quality monitors.

My Students

My students are primarily Latin@s who have spent the majority of their life living in a big city. Many students have been attending the school since kindergarten.

My students have had little opportunities to do real-world citizen science and love the idea of their classwork actually benefiting themselves as well as their younger siblings.

The school is situated on a busy street and I would love to have them investigate the impact that the car exhaust has on the air quality in the building.

My Project

This project will give my students much-needed hands-on experience in an environmental science project.

We will be using the rented equipment the weeks of 2/26-3/19/2018.

Students will be monitoring the air quality in various rooms in the high school at different points during the day to investigate the levels of various air pollutants that they are exposed . Being by a busy road, there will likely be some interesting effects during peak traffic times, and I hope that they will also be able to identify patterns in different classrooms as well.

Students will analyze their results and submit their findings to the facilities management at our school to hopefully improve the air quality for themselves and their younger siblings.
