My Students

I teach at a TK-6 school where a majority of the students come from low socio-economic background, but this doesn't affect their thirst for learning. I have a great bunch kindergartners that are so eager and enthusiastic about learning new things every day. Even though most students are English learners, their passion for learning always shows. When students are provided with fun and engaging materials they can learn through play!I want to create a fun and exciting environment for students to engage in learning about financial literacy.

My Project

Financial literacy is an important skill that will guide children toward a financially secure future. Students should start at a young age and can start by counting coins and making change for purchases. Teaching students about money will help them discover the relationships between earning, spending and saving. When children are expose to this concept, they will likely begin to understand the value of money. That is the reason why I want my students to begin creating a classroom store, where they can role play being a customer or an employee. Students will run the store by creating posters and labels with the Cricut machine to advertise products and price tags. Students will also learn to order and replenish items as needed. In order to build my classroom store, I am requesting inventory that my students can sell and buy. Novelty items such as bubbles, slap bands, squishy, cube puzzles, drawstring bags, and a variety of snacks will help start up the store. All these materials on this project help promote literacy skills which will lead to students being aware of the important role finance plays in the real-world.
