Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a barrier-free, Title I school that is home to over 1500 students, with over 70 languages spoken. One day we were in school and the next day we were closed. COVID-19 has ravaged our country but Queens, NY has been one of the hardest-hit areas of the pandemic. With that being said, remote learning has been difficult due to the difficulties many of my families have had with the swift toll COVID-19 has taken on their family life and their emotional wellness.

With our return to in-person instruction, I cannot wait to immerse my kids in activities to increase their knowledge of financial literacy and its importance for their future success in life.

My Project

With our return to in-person instruction after a lengthy absence due to COVID-19 I feel that it is so important to be even more creative with my lesson planning. Money is a really important concept that children need to understand in order to be successful in life. This is why I always make sure that my children understand the meaning of financial literacy and how it impacts their life. For my unit on money, I am going to have my children design their own business and the items that will be sold and their cost. When they finish with their brainstorming and draft, I will have them use the paper to recreate their masterpiece so I can hang them up for all to enjoy safely. The sharpeners will be used to make sure that they have they are able to use their supplies to decorate their projects. The books will be used to ensure that their projects can be completed just as easily remotely as in-person.
