I want my students to get hands-on, real-life experience with money. Over the years, I have developed a classroom store. It can get expensive to keep the store stocked. I am requesting items to continue and expand a classroom store/economy. During the week, students earn money for the work they do in school, homework, and behavior. When they are paid on Friday they enter all their money into their bank account sheets. This allows me to set up a system where they learn about paying bills before being able to make "want" purchases. They will pay rent for their desk, and any extra things they might have needed for the week (lost pencil or glue stick).
I price items in the store differently so the students can learn about different shopping experiences, do they have enough money for what they want or will they have to save?
They will learn how to count the money, how much money they need to give for items purchased, and how to make a change.
All of these high-interest items I am requesting will be for sale in the store such as; the different types of candy, jewelry, and toys. This will drive motivation not only to understand and earn money but help them learn about saving and responsibility. They get so excited every Friday when we shop and I want to keep them engaged. I believe this opportunity gives them real-life experiences they can use as they get older
