This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are a wonderful group of 2nd graders. They attend an urban school where 100% of the students receive free breakfast and lunch. The students come from many different backgrounds and face many different challenges in their day to day lives. There are many single income families and families that are receiving assistance in one form or another. Regardless of the challenges these students face, they always come to school with a smile on their face. They are eager to learn and when given an even playing field, they are capable of great things! I want to help even the field for them and their education.
My Project
The materials I have requested will help to improve the financial literacy skills of my students. This is always a difficult but very important skill for my students. Having hands on materials available for them to use will increase their skills and motivation to practice making change and counting money. The materials will be very helpful during center time and also for individual students to use as refreshers. The materials I have chosen will help the students build a strong foundation in financial literacy that will help them in the years to come. The students are all interested and motivated by money and purchasing items. This project will help to show the students that there are many responsibilities that come with handling money not just buying whatever you want.
