My library is a public school library that serves 500 students in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. Students come to the library once a week for 55 minutes for lessons and book selection. We need to update our financial section collection. The collection is aged. The average age of our collection according to Collectionwiz analysis is 1996.
If students learn about money at a younger age they are more likely to save money and understanding economics.
In order to help my students prepare for the future, I would like to get books on their reading levels that will be available to all students in the school. We have about 6 books on financial literacy and money which do not help prepare our students for the future. Students in second grade learn as part of their curriculum how to count money and grades three and four get visits from the local banks to learn how to start saving and why it is important. The books in this DonorsChoose selection are all reading levels (according to accelerated reader) 5th grade and under so students will be able to read and comprehend these books.
My Project
We need updated money books to help improve our school's library collection. My school serves 500 students from kindergarten through fourth grade. Money is the curriculum for second, third and fourth grades. Fourth graders receive a visit from the local bank to learn about savings. Second grade learns how to count coins and dollar bills. Third grade learns about the importance of money. These books are all part of the accelerated reader program so students will not only learn about financial responsibility but will also improve their reading comprehension. The books are all hard back so that the books will be able to have multiple circulations and hold up so that the books last long.
