My Students

One of the many things that my students struggle with is comprehending and counting money. With our current economic state of society, it is imperative that my students be able to recognize and utilize it correctly. With our ongoing issues, teaching these concepts is proactive.

I have a class of 17 amazing students, each coming from a different background, studious, and with a personality larger than life.

Our school is located in a very low-income area. Our school is a Title I school and all my students are on free or reduced lunch. The students in my class have limited access to resources. Most of them have not been outside of their neighborhood. These students see violence and gang related activities as a part of their daily lives. My students do not know how to correctly use money. They see their parents and family just using a credit card and they have no concept of how money really works. For this reason, finance is an important topic in our classroom.

My Project

My students need to learn how money really works. They need to have an understanding of money management as well. My goal is for my students to be able to recognize and count money. The money games will help students with these goals. They will be able to play hands-on activities while learning how to add/make change with money so that when they are away from school they can correctly calculate and manipulate money. The money listening center is a great game for the students as well. It allows them to listen and learn about money while playing a game.

Your donations will help support my students to become better mathematicians and amateur financial gurus.

Additionally, these proactive steps will help lead the students towards the pathway of financial stability.
