Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My students come from a socioeconomically disadvantaged neighborhood. A full 99% of my students are Hispanic or Latino, and 91% of my students receive free or reduced-price lunch. We have a number of students with broken families and working parents.
I would like for students in my classroom to have everything they need to make the most out of their education.
I try to create a home away from home and provide things that they may not be exposed to within their own family.
I try my best to provide my students with as much as I can. Unfortunately, it isn't always possible to provide them with everything they deserve. Denying them what they deserve is limiting their potential.
My students love to learn and love to be creative. They thrive when they are using their creativity and imagination. Not only are they creating art, but they are socializing, grappling, and problem-solving while still having fun; my students learn best when they enjoy the activity.
My Project
Learning about money is a challenge for young learners. At this age, they are learning to identify coins and learn the value. They need anchor charts that they can refer to while working with money. The books about money will help me introduce the topic using real life situations for them to see how money gets used daily.
I have a classroom filled with student work.
It is a delight and sends a message to students that their work and learning are valuable. Anchor charts are a great way to introduce and reinforce to young learners. The Cricut Maker can also help us create numeration centers for the students to use so they can learn about value, patterning and working together. The cutting machine will give me a chance to help students create cutouts that can be used to promote financial literacy around the classroom. By supporting this project, you will be helping my students get more hands-on practice with money.
