My students need art tissue, 14 packages of payons, a Masterpack of art pencils, and 25 sketch pads to assist in the development of comprehension strategies for responding to a range of visual artworks.
Imagine creating a restful, beautiful, pastel flower garden of your very own without lifting a shovel. It could be a continuous garden, full of trees, chirping birds and water lily pads. Imagine that it does not need tilling, watering or weeding. You can spend as much time there as you like.
My students are located in an inner city, depressed school district.
Most qualify for free breakfast and lunch subsidy, and come from single parent homes. In a lot of cases, grandparents and foster homes have assumed the responsibility of general care and welfare of the child.
The children don't realize that art is an integral part of their lives. They don't understand that art infiltrates every daily activity in which they engage. They don't know how to channel their energy to create a meaningful work of art relating to their personal experiences. The children are very talented and eager to be successful.
My Project
The tissue paper, colored pencils, payons and sketch paper selected are designed to promote creativity and to help expand their imaginations. They'll become more cognizant of the beauty that surrounds them and that is within them and learn to transform their thoughts into art. With the personal challenges they must endure each day, they will learn to escape into their own personal realm of creativity. They can render their imaginations into a viable and tangible work of art, to which they can all easily relate.
This project will provide art tissue, art pencils, and sketch pads, to which my students would not ordinarily have access.
They will understand how to use these elements to communicate their ideas in a variety of visual forms. It will provide an opportunity for imagination growth and expansion. It will provide an opportunity for the students to develop skills or enhance existing ones. I want to create artists that will transform the ordinary into the extraordinary!
