Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

For 10 years I have successfully implemented a classroom reward system called Mona Bucks. Students have the opportunity to earn points as they complete classroom jobs. Washing dishes, passing out items, sweeping the floors and helping each other are just some of the ways they can earn. Students can purchase a variety of rewards and incentives using their Mona Bucks.

This systems helps to teach responsibility, respect, and money management skills that transcend far beyond the art classroom.

They take ownership of themselves and learn to become independent leaders. If more than one student volunteers for a task, they work together to accomplish their goal. Spending and saving money earned demonstrates real world wants and needs. Although I kid about adding tax and inflation, students can understand the ever changing responsibilities of an adult.

Students look forward to the new changes each year and demonstrate positive behaviors. The items that I have selected will help students complete jobs: dish soap, sponges, brooms, pencil sharpeners, etc. the food and candy selections are of course favorites of the class store, however, I wanted to grow sensory and stem items that can also be purchased like the building kits. Students can also purchase rewards in the classroom, like game time. The games like “Guess Who” would be a great addition to my collection. All Mona Buck prizes have previously been purchased by me because it works! Students can look forward to a safe and positive classroom because we can all work together to accomplish a community of leaders.
