Molding a Creative Foundation for Growing Artists

Help me give my students the opportunity to work with kiln fired clay, as well as stamps and paint sticks for special needs and younger students.

This project expired on December 27, 2019.

My Students

My students are open-minded, intelligent, and kind inquirers. I am a K-5 Art teacher at a diverse International Baccalaureate Elementary school. The school works as a family, and is truly welcoming to everyone despite often receiving new faces (speaking from recent experience).

My artists are eager learners, craving to try new mediums and techniques.

My students realize that art takes effort and practice, and are constantly reflecting to better themselves. They are fearless in my room and, as artists of the 21st century, they deserve to use a variety of tools to engage their imagination and creativity.

My Project

No one likes to be left out. Having enough clay for the entire student body would give every student the opportunity to become familiar with the medium at their own personal level. Clay is treated as a prize for good behavior in the eyes of children in many schools. My students deserve to explore the beautiful world of clay, and to make the connections of pottery's purpose in everyday life.

I teach students from K-5 with many different needs.

Many of these students have difficulty working with certain types of tools. I feel that younger and special needs students would greatly benefit from the use of stamps and paint sticks because they are still developing their fine motor skills. In my experience, these students highly enjoy these items, and find pride in the process. Many of these students are not yet able to draw a straight line, let alone able to hold a paint brush successfully. I believe that these items will provide the tactile connection that children crave, while allowing all students to participate and find pride in their work.
