This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are excited to learn. They are predominantly Hispanic and are from low income families. Some people say the south side of OKC is scary, but I have grown to love these kids. I know how hard their mommas and papas work to provide their kids with the very best they can. I service students from pre k to 6th and then 9-12 th grades. I am fortunate to be able to provide education for this close knit community.
My Project
Having an iPad in the speech therapy setting will allow for more individualized instruction. One way the iPad can be used is to access articulation decks, books, and games to increase speech sound intelligibility. Another way it can be used is to foster language skills through the various apps available. Social skills videos as well as premade social skills books can be accessed as well. Fluency tracking and videos for students that stutter can be viewed. Data can be easily tracked and parents can be emailed directly from the data apps, keeping parents more involved in the therapy process. I know that parent involvement and increased student interest will be fostered if we have an iPad to modernize our speech therapy classroom.
