Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
These supplies will be used to give my students an organized way to store their math work. I currently teach four math classes to English language learners, many of which are struggling to keep track of their assignments. Some misplace their work in their lockers or are piling their work on my bookshelves—only to feel discouraged when their work goes missing and they have to start over.
Your donation will help to improve my students' organizational skills and be ready to learn sooner.
Currently, my students use stapled playlists, which are easy to tear or fall apart as they flip the pages. Durable folders will protect their playlists and having different colors per class will help them visually differentiate which folder belongs to their class. The hole punch will be used to help place their playlists and any extra scratch paper they need to be successful to their folders. For my newcomer English language learners, having an English and translated playlist will help working toward being bilingual.
My students have expressed enjoying learning when interacting with these playlists, which is encouraging to hear. The headphones will give students a way to listen to the videos they are provided during math practice. As English language learners, they may need to rewind and re-listen to these videos. These videos allow me to work with students in small groups, providing human interaction that is important in middle school.
I love the passion and effort they put into their projects, especially when they know it will be on display in the hallway. This compact document scanner will give students a way to digitize their classroom projects and classwork to build a digital notebook and share their work with their families both in the States and in their home countries.
