Modern Day Myths, Heroes, and Legends

Help me give my students an opportunity to experience a fresh take on the Hero's Journey with books and headphones!

My Project

My students love to explore. They jump on every opportunity they're given to learn as much as they can, and they always have questions that lead them to new insights. In our next unit, we'll be learning about the Hero's Journey and mythology. The primary texts we'll read are ancient myths, but I want them to see how the Hero's Journey is still alive in literature today.

My hope is that through Legendborn, with its mix of traditional mythology, modern storytelling, and a protagonist of color, my students will see themselves reflected in the genre.

Putting these books in their hands, as well as headphones for my students accessing the text via audiobook, will lead to a fun and enlightening experience for them. Furthermore, since the conclusion of the unit is them writing their own Hero's Journey stories, I hope that it will inspire them to be the writers I know they can be.
