Modern Checkout Counter

Help me give my students a new library checkout counter. Our current checkout desk in the library is over 25 years old, and it needs to be replaced.

My Students

Our elementary school library is used by transitional kindergarten through fifth-grade students every week. Each class comes to the library for a thirty-minute period during which I, their teacher librarian provides a lesson tailored to their grade level based on state library standards and fabulous literature.

My students are amazing kids who always come to the library ready to learn.

They experience a mix of print media and technology during our library lessons. Our discussions are engaging and often entertaining! Just yesterday, a second-grade boy entered with his class and announced, "I love books!" I replied, "Me too!"

We are always in need of more books and supplies! My students cannot wait to check out new and interesting books. There are so many great authors and stories in our world, and I want my students to see what is possible through books and the many imaginative works that are being published today.

My Project

Our school library is in need of a new checkout counter. Our current counter is over 25 years old, and it is showing its age. The finish has worn off in some places, and the raw particle board is showing through along the bottom of the desk.

I want my students to be proud of our library.

Having quality, updated furniture makes a difference in how students view their school. The pieces I have chosen to replace the outdated counter are modern and will better coordinate with the overall color scheme in the library.

The new counter will also make the checkout process easier than our current situation. The new pieces are 24 inches deep. The counter we have in the library now is deeper, and when the smaller children bring their books for checkout the person behind the counter must lean forward to reach the book. This will eliminate the need to reach as far.
