Help me give my students ukuleles for our Modern Band unit at our school!
FULLY FUNDED! Mr. Green's classroom raised $842
This project is fully funded
My Students
My students are all residents of the South Bronx and have a love for both hip hop and Latin music. Most are bilingual in English and Spanish. In school and in their homes, both languages are spoken.
In the music classroom, I am amazed at their energy to learn and their dedication to being in school and being successful.
They work well in groups and especially love rhythm! We have two concerts per year, both in the winter and in spring.
My Project
Throughout the school year, students at our charter school will learn drums, keyboard, guitar, and ukulele. With these ukuleles they will learn fundamentals such as chord progressions, rhythms, and simple melodies. They also learn about standard notation and other applicable music theory.
In the spring, the students form their own bands and create songs together to perform at the spring concert.
As a possible technological extension to the unit, we have plans to make a music video of the best song. Maybe you'll see these kids in a viral YouTube video one day soon!
