Modern Band Equipment Restock

My Students

I work as the music and choir teacher at a Title I school where most students are low-income. It has been open for 5 years! The program focuses on DLI; students learn Spanish half of their school day and English the other half of the day. My Modern Band program was started last year and even with the consequences of COVID-19, it is still thriving!

My students love playing instruments they find in a rock band and playing songs they hear on the radio.

They love to play music such as Selena, Post Malone, or even White Stripes! I love they have such a varied taste in music. I believe music is an important part of my student expressing themselves in a healthy way and I want to hone their abilities to do so. The best way to help them succeed with this is by playing songs they already know on instruments they can play at home.

My Project

Modern Band at my school has been successful at many ages. I have been buying equipment and receiving donations from the community to try and ensure each student is able to choose the instrument they wish to play AND have the equipment needed to rock out!

This restock of equipment for Modern Band will give my students a new guitar cable, replacement guitar strings, a new keyboard, and an equipment cart to help transport our new gear!

Our biggest chore getting ready for the concert is transporting gear to the stage or to the district office. This ends up being a full-day event having to carry gear by hand, a day that could be spent practicing our band set! Having a cart would be so much help!
