This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
I teach 9-12th grade students, in an urban setting, near the downtown area of Orlando, FL. The student population at my school is well over 90% African American. The average family income is so low that the entire school has been approved to receive free breakfast, lunch and after school meals. Despite where they come from, my kids are widely talented, creative and have a genuine love for the arts! All they want, is the same opportunity as everyone else, despite their inability to pay for art fees.
My Project
Adding digital drawing tablets to my art classroom will enhance my students' learning experience because it would be providing them with yet another tool in order to create. Our society has changed and it is important that the way in which we approach education evolve as well. Not only do our students live and communicate in a digital world, but in our school district we have moved towards digital curriculum. It is only fitting that the art classroom also contain technology that is not only align with other disciplines but also prepare them for careers beyond high school where digital drawing tablets are commonplace in tech companies and animation studios.
