My students need materials to help them model scientific processes. I am requesting the following lab materials; poster board, glue, colored pencils, scissors, paint, Sharpies, and other lab resources.

My Students
Help our brains get bigger! When I ask past students what they remember from my class, it's always the projects and laboratory activities that come to mind. Creating models is not only fun and memorable, but an academically challenging experience for my scientists.
My 7th grade scientists attend a public turnaround school in the inner-city.
Just three years ago, our school was ranked as one of the lowest performing in the entire state of Maryland. But thanks to our students' diligence and determination, our formerly negative reputation is getting turned upside down.
My Project
The new science standards push American students to higher levels of critical thinking, so that they can be ready to compete with science students around the world. One way that the standards are new is by requiring students to demonstrate their learning through models that show how parts fit into a whole or how processes work together. Science can be challenging because some things, like the solar system, are huge and too big to see all at once. Other things, like cells, are too small to see without a microscope. These materials will allow my scientists to create tangible examples to demonstrate mastery of science content at deep levels. With these materials my scientists will show the parts of a cell, the differences between plant and animal cells and how their body systems work together to keep them alive. My scientists will have projects that they are proud to display for parents and community members and will be able to explain their learning with their models. I am requesting the following lab materials; poster board, glue, colored pencils, scissors, paint, Sharpies, and other lab resources.
These new materials will motivate my scientists to create masterpieces that demonstrate their mastery of life science content.
They will provide my students with exciting ways to demonstrate their learning that show they are ready to compete with all other students as they apply to competitive city-wide high schools and colleges throughout the country.
