My students are the insightful eyes and ears of the many diverse neighborhoods of Brooklyn, New York. Many students are of Caribbean descent and more than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households.
My students are dynamic, creative, inquisitive, and collaborative.
My students fiercely support each other in learning and problem-solving every day. They relentlessly work to expand their horizons of understanding in order to engage with new exciting experiences that will prepare them for college and futures beyond the academic setting.
My Project
Students are expected to apply their understanding of ways in which our planet is dynamic. Giving students opportunities to manipulate materials to build models that can be used to explain change is applicable in so many units of our course such as: Dynamic Earth, Earth's landscapes and surface processes, Geologic History, and our Meteorology units.
Not only will the act of constructing models be engaging for my students, it will also allow them to process and explain complex information in multiple formats and contexts.
My students are not generally not given enough experiences where they can merge creativity and the vibrant colors of Earth's surface with their understanding of scientific principles and phenomena such as relative dating, correlating rock layers, and describing the formation of rock strata. The activities where students are creating are the same activities where students are also doing the most learning!
