The materials that you provided made an impact on my students, their ability to access our SEL curriculum and their learning. My students lovingly referred to the markers you bought as us \"the good markers\" and sought these out throughout the year not just in advisory but also for their other projects. It is without a doubt that these supplies made advisory feel a little bit more special to my students. When it came time to decompress, there were easy ways for them to access materials that felt unique and not like the same materials they have been using over and over. They did not know how to play mancala at the beginning of the year. By the time the year was over, this was requested as a game to bring to field day. Next year, I hope to buy a few more sets so that we can play more than one game at once. The multiple packs of UNO were a hit. This is a game students love and it was nice to have fresh sets at the beginning of the year that they could open and play with. The most commented items from my project were the coloring books and the markers. Our students love coloring, but because they are in high school, sometimes it makes more sense to provide something a little bit more mature than a normal print-out from google. The bound coloring books provided a way for students to de-stress. Some askes to take the books home with them at the end of the year. Because I had enough for a class set, I had no problem letting students take their books home with them for the summer. These materials came in handy throughout the school year. Because we mostly utilized the supplies during advisory, I often pulled them out when I was conferencing with students about their grades. As I would be focusing on one student and their grades, other students were able to have their pick of materials and what they wanted to focus on in a very \"low stakes\" access way. I am already looking at materials for next year and I will be purchasing those markers (and perhaps a second) set again. We used them over and over. They only started to die out towards the very end of the year. While we used these materials throughout the year, I did try to take phots of student participation and work at various points of the year. I have provided three photos where we used the materials. The first, is a common sight in our advisory where we created posters and coloring for the classroom. The second photo is from our school-wide door decorating contest. This was entirely students led, using the materials provided. The third photo is from field day, where we took the supplies outside of the classroom and used them outdoors. Thank you again for helping make our advisory class a little bit more unique this school year and a place that students wanted to be.","fullyFundedDate":1725816427564,"projectUrl":"project/advisory-20242025-sel/8743816/","projectTitle":"Advisory 2024/2025 - SEL","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Akerley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9732802"},{"teacherId":9749263,"projectId":8905366,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous contributions to our classroom. Thanks to your contribution, our students now have access to resources that help them develop focus, emotional regulation, and self-awareness. Since receiving these materials, we've incorporated mindfulness exercises into our weekly meetings, including guided meditation, breathing techniques, and journaling. One particularly impactful moment was when a student who often struggles with anxiety shared how using the new mindfulness journals helped them manage stress before a big test. Seeing students embrace these practices and apply them in their daily lives has been truly inspiring.\r\n\r\nThe excitement was evident when students first saw the materials. They were eager to try out the meditation cushions, explore different breathing techniques, and dive into the guided mindfulness activities. Many students expressed gratitude for having a dedicated space and tools to help them unwind and refocus. These resources have transformed our club meetings into a more immersive and engaging experience, allowing students to build lifelong skills for managing stress.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are working on a mindfulness challenge where students set personal goals for incorporating mindfulness into their routines, whether through short meditations before class or using breathing exercises to stay calm under pressure. We also plan to introduce peer-led mindfulness sessions, empowering students to take leadership roles in promoting well-being within the school. The materials you helped provide have been nothing short of transformative for my students' mental health and emotional well-being. Here's how your contributions are making a real difference.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the mental health resources you provided in several powerful ways. Recently, we launched a class-wide initiative focused on mindfulness and stress reduction. With the new workbooks, journal prompts, and guided activities, students are now able to engage in daily reflection and mindfulness practices. One of the most impactful moments came when the students participated in a gratitude journaling exercise. This allowed them to pause and reflect on the positive aspects of their lives, promoting a sense of calm and mental clarity. Your materials have been essential in creating a safe space for students to explore and understand their emotions.\r\n\r\nWhen the materials arrived, my students were genuinely excited. They were eager to explore the journals, worksheets, and relaxation tools. They told me they felt more supported, and some even shared how they'd been struggling with stress and anxiety, so having tools like these was a huge relief. It was incredibly moving to see them open up in such a positive way, knowing that they had tangible resources to help them manage their emotions.\r\n\r\nWhat are the next steps for your students on a current classroom lesson or project?\r\n\r\nThe next step for my students is to work on creating a \"Mental Health Toolkit\" for themselves. Using the techniques they've learned from the resources you provided, students will compile personal coping strategies, mindfulness exercises, and journaling prompts into their own custom toolkit. This will be an ongoing project that they can return to whenever they need support. The goal is for them to have a go-to set of resources that empowers them to manage their mental health independently.\r\n\r\nYour contributions have made it possible for my students to learn about self-care, emotional expression, and resilience in ways they never have before.
