My high school students are either taking Biology as a graduation and/or college requirement or they are taking Anatomy and Physiology as a science elective course. My Biology students want to experience what it is being a scientist by learning to use the tools a scientist would use as they investigate, explore, and examine the living world in which they live. My Anatomy and Physiology students want to have lab experiences that teach them about how amazing the human body is. Many of my students have plans to further their education in the field of science at both local junior colleges or attending a 4-year college/university.
My Project
This project will enable students to get some hands-on anatomy experiences during distance learning. My students will be given a kit with various colors of non-drying modeling clay, a two-page laminated diagram of the human body and dry erase markers. With these materials students will be able to model the muscles of the human body, organs of the digestive system, and the flow of blood through the heart and body.
Students need to visualize and model the systems and organs of the human body to learn and understand them.
The modeling clay can be used throughout second semester either at home or when we return to class. Every student will have their own kit to use to help them understand the structure, function and location of many organs and systems studied in anatomy.
I'm also asking for preserved cats for dissection. When we return to the classroom students will be able to dissect cats to experience what they have modeled at home. Cats are similar in anatomy to humans and the dissection will allow them to learn actual muscles, other systems and the language of anatomy.
