Clay is irresistible, and model magic by Crayola is just the art resource to showcase student projects. Mayan sculptures, Inuit totem poles, and clay prototypes of student research are just the means to express student creativity.
We are a fifth grade in a New York City public school and from the published demographics, we are in one of the most diverse areas in the nation.
We are proud of the fact that we have many cultures represented in our school. Our global perspective is all the more reason to keep up with international events. The international school community our school serves has high expectations with the knowledge that the students must have the finest resources for learning. New York City is a wonderful place to learn and our school and our borough of Queens exemplify the best of so many cultures. Because we have so much to share we feel our students are partners with their families in learning, as we turnkey innovations and the use of powerful resources in the classroom. Our school is inclusive and serves every socioeconomic level, a responsibility we take seriously.
My Project
My students need model magic clay to design sculptures that illustrate their research projects in science and social studies. Our international school community values the arts and understands its role in addressing learning standards and the Common Core Curriculum. Model Magic by Crayola is a clay form that comes in small manageable packets that students can use to create sculptures. As they conduct research of the Mayans, the Incas, and indigenous Latin American cultures, they encounter magnificent examples of sculptures representing those groups. My students would love the opportunity to create their representations of the indigenous groups they study and what better way to do this than to work with Model Magic. The clay comes in one ounce packets which is the perfect size to use without wasting larger amounts that might dry out because of open packets. We have requested the white and multicolored packets because of the vivid colors of the cultures we are studying. The white model magic also can be painted by tempera paints to conform to the colors the Incas and Mayans used.
Model Magic molds easily in small hands and dries quickly.
The one ounce packets avoid waste. Less is more because students will work with the amount of Model Magic they need for their creations. We have worked with this product in the past and the students love to use it. Model Magic is also neat; there is no mess while while the children work with it. That means more time sculpting and less time needed to clean. We're hoping donors help bring this magic to our students.
