I teach fifth grade at an underserved public school. I have 28 dedicated students. In addition to my students, there are four other fifth grade classes who will be joining us, 121 students in all. Often the only opportunities students get to leave the neighborhood is on field trips. Students don't get many opportunities to go to museums unless again it's a school function. As a fifth grade team, we decided to plan a trip to MOCA so students could see an exhibit.
The entire fifth grade, 121 students, will get to venture out of their neighborhood to check out Downtown Los Angeles and the various art exhibits at the Museum of Contemporary Art (MOCA). Students will get to tour the museum, view various exhibits, and will learn how to discuss and interpret artwork. Students will learn about different contemporary artists and different mediums at school beforehand and then will get to view and discuss these artists in real life during the visit. This trip is a unique experience for students because some have not been to an art museum at all.
