Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My 5th-grade mathematicians are beyond what words can describe. Being that this is their last year in elementary school they face the challenges of middle school applications, STAAR, and everything else that life throws at them.
We come from a Title I campus with 88% of our student body qualifying for free or reduced lunch.
My classroom serves many gifted and unique students ranging from refugees and immigrants from around the globe to students with social and emotional disabilities and others with severe academic needs. We value everything our kiddos bring into our classroom and accept them for the person they are.
My Project
Please help me facilitate a more interactive and personalized learning environment through flexible seating.
Math can be an intimidating subject to many students, by allowing them to have a choice in their learning environment students are more capable of demonstrating their abilities.
We currently have desks and a carpeted space area in the classroom, here we meet to discuss our successes and our difficulties on the assignment for that day. By being able to provide some flexible seating options, I hope to optimize my students' learning and self-confidence in their math abilities.
With your help, we can provide seating options such as wobble stools, stability balls, wobble cushions, and fidget chair bands. I'm hoping to create a comfortable space where students can meet and discuss their ideas.
