My students are very bright in multiple ways. However, my students require a little extra support within their general education classes. As a co-lab teacher, I will go into a general education classroom that some of my students are assigned to. This will be in various subjects and various grade levels. My job is to assist the general education teacher by helping all the students in the class while focusing on specific academic goals outlined in the IEP's of some students.
I want to change my students' mindset of always falling short
of meeting expectations. Many of these students struggle to provide paper and pencils for class. Others are hindered by their lack of organizational skills. Still others lack the self-confidence due to societal pressures from parents and peers.
My students present various challenges with their learning. I need to be able to come along side them to offer support. Having the instant tools I need to show a student how to find an answer is essential. My goal is to know my students personally so that I can provide them with the best possible individualized education that meets their specific needs.
My Project
As a Co-Lab teacher, I move to six classes each day. I must shift my mindset and materials each time I move. As I enter the general education classroom, I review the plans, considering the best way to support struggling students.
The materials that I have available in my cart will help me give a visual representation to the verbal explanations I provide.
A mobile cart will allow me to keep fidgets and sensory items readily available to help students focus. In addition, I can carry the supplies needed for small group testing. When the bell rings, I roll on.
