This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
In my Second grade class, every student is special and unique. I currently teach 2nd grade in Newark. I've taken joy in being a part of a special school community where students, families, and teachers all work together to give our students a strong social-emotional and academic foundation. We all have the same goal in mind: to cultivate a nurturing environment in which we are committed to challenging each student to meet his/her optimal potential academically, socially, and emotionally by respecting, appreciating and challenging students in a caring community, while building a sense of responsibility and respect.
At our school we are all STARS: We Show kindness, Take responsibility, Act safely, Respect everyone and Stay positive!
And every day we make sure to SPARKLE and SHINE!
My Project
I am asking for snacks for my students so I can give them a snack a day.
Throughout the day my students constantly say "I'm hungry!"
My students come from low-income families, and unfortunately, do not have enough money to buy food. They receive breakfast at school, but sometimes it's only a milk and a small cereal. For a child who does not eat dinner, this does not hold them over until lunch. Throughout lessons, they constantly ask and sometimes cry that they are hungry. I have 22 students and to supply them with a snack a day is too expensive for one person. I am asking for snacks so that when they are hungry I have something to give them, and they can refocus and learn lessons being taught instead of focusing on being hungry.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
Data about students' economic need comes from the National Center for Education Statistics, via our partners at MDR Education. Learn more
