My Students

My students are the most curious, intrigued, entry-level programmer type students that you will ever meet. They come to school smiling, ready to take on the challenges of the day. They have to work hard. Many of them are second language learners. All of my students qualify for free breakfast and lunch and once a month, Second Harvest brings my children nourishing fruits and vegetables. Life is not easy for them, but nothing is going to stop them from learning and being the best they can be.

My Project

I was fortunate enough to get funding to take the working centers Math PD by Marcy Cook. The items I have requested were used in the PD. These tasks will help develop independence as students are engaged in mathematical thinking, have opportunities to probe experiment and persevere while working at their pace and not the rigid pace that our classroom requires.

All these items require critical thinking such as Logic Tiles for Algebra, which students form algebraic expressions when x and y are given (symbol substitution).

The task packets are designed for differentiated learning so the students can work on their level of need/challenge. For example, The Juggle Tiles packet has various upper Elementary and Middle school math concepts such as factors, multiples, and square numbers.

Instructions are clear and I have added the supplies that are used; however if one of the tiles goes missing it will be very easy for a student to replace that tile. No more interruptions searching for missing pieces and restating the directions during valuable instruction time. I can't wait to get this funded!
