My students need clay, modeling tools, glazes, glaze brush sets, and cones for correct firing temperatures, these will all help to get us create great 3D projects.
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
The students are not exposed to the artistic medium of clay; having a working kiln in the classroom but not being able to create a piece of ceramic art is unfortunate.
My students are in grades K-5 and can't wait to come to art every week.
Most are of a low socioeconomic background. Art is an outlet for most of them, as they may not have another way to express themselves. The elementary is part of a city school district and a Title I school.
My Project
My students need clay, modeling tools, glazes, glaze brush sets, and cones for correct firing temperatures, these will all help to get us create great 3D projects. Students will be able to explore the medium of clay and ceramics. They will get to see the process from start to finish. I will be able to teach them many techniques in clay arts. Students will learn how to develop an idea in a three dimensional manner. They will also learn about the many techniques to hand-build with clay (coil, pinch, and slab).
This donation will change the idea of art for my students.
Instead of them looking at a kiln and not having the supplies to create with it, they will know how it functions and get to get dirty while having fun creating! The impact of this donation on my students will inspire them to create something they have never had the opportunity to create.
