My Project
“In special education, there’s too much emphasis placed on the deficit and not enough on the strength,” is my favorite quote by Temple Grandin. It has always been my goal and passion to provide each of my students with the opportunity to show the world what they are truly capable of, regardless of their disabilities.
Collier’s Café began as a simple snack-making activity and has grown into a fully operational classroom café, "Mixing Up Skills & Sweeping in Success!" We now take and fulfill staff lunch orders—including an entrée, side dish, dessert, and drink—entirely prepared by our students.
By donating to our project, you’re helping us expand this hands-on learning experience with better, more efficient tools. A KitchenAid mixer will help students safely and effectively prepare a wider range of meals and baked goods, while a vacuum cleaner will support classroom cleanliness and teach important life and vocational skills related to responsibility and independence.
