Mixing Math and Cooking

My students need pots, pans, measuring cups, bowls, and baking sheets to learn how to incorporate Math into daily cooking.

My Students

Not everyone was born a chef, but the students of New Orleans have a strong understanding of great food! Now let's use that to enrich our students' Math skills and teach them about the history of food around the globe.

I teach at the 2nd lowest performing school in New Orleans.

These students have been deprived a rigorous college preparatory education in the past. This year, I have made some drastic changes. I have pushed them to want to achieve excellence and as a result, these students are eager to learn!

My Project

My students are very curious students! They constantly want to hear about the world that surrounds them. In doing so, they want a more hands on learning experience. The vision of this enrichment class is to take 1 international recipe each week and research the background information about it. Once the students gather enough information about the country, we will cook or bake that recipe in the school cafeteria. This part of the class will allow me to incorporate measuring skills which we covered in the Math curriculum. In doing so, we will help broaden our students' knowledge about the world while incorporating important Math and History skills.

With your generous donations, you and FEED USA will help the students of New Orleans learn about food all around the globe and bring an appreciation to the diversity in the world.

In doing so, they will be incorporating essential Math and History skills that they could use in their daily lives. This is not the traditional method of teaching, but with my passion and my students' eagerness to learn, you have the chance to help students explore a new method of learning these academic skills.
