Mixed Media Printmaking with Gel Plates

Help me give my students alternative printmaking supplies so they can do some hands-on exploration with art materials they might not otherwise encounter!

My Project

After multiple years of being on screens and digital learning, my 8th grade art students are eager to experiment with new, hands-on art techniques. A stack of old art books and magazines in my storage closet started a conversation about alternative printmaking techniques. Gel printmaking plates let students transfer and layer images. Students had no idea this was possible without a computer!

I try to encourage my students to take risks with their art making and to try new things: sometimes it's okay to "fail beautifully".

This project will allow my students to explore new printmaking techniques in a safe, fun, and satisfying way!

The materials for this project are ones that most of my students will not have encountered before. The plates and brayers purchased for this project will be used by art students for years to come!
