My students need card stock and some black ink cartridges to print the mix-n-match math activity cards that they will be creating.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students enjoy working in groups and doing whole class engaging activities. Their favorite whole class activity is called Mix-n-Match. They are assigned cards at random, and they have to search for other students in the classroom who have matching cards. They love this activity.
My students are eight graders mostly English learners who started the school year showing very low skills that have improved throughout the first semester.
I believe that the use of daily non-traditional lessons involving cooperative leaning and hands on activities are two of the reasons for the positive change. The majority of these students qualify for the federal free meal program.
My Project
My students will be creating mix-n-match game cards. I randomly distribute these cards to each student, and they have to walk around and search quickly for the classmates that have the card that matches. With the card stock I am requesting my students will be creating other sets of cards to be used during math including simple equations with the same solution, different representations of real numbers, simplifying fractions, different representations of linear equations, and many more.
My students have been very receptive to engaging activities such as mix-n-match cards.
I printed a few sets in regular white paper, but several students suggested they could create other sets on card stock. Donations to this project will ensure that my students have the supplies they need to print their creations. It will help them take ownership of their learning, and it will boost their self esteem as they become the authors of instructional material used in other math classes.
