it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
My project is a sculpture made of paper mache over a wire armature. Students will design a human like character and make the armature in a pose that projects movement. My students will research human forms in movement. Students will use pliable wire to construct a human form. Then the students cover the wired form with aluminum foil to establish the thickness of the limbs.
Finally, the students will use handmade paper clay to cover the foil and make the human form shaped to the design they chose.
The paper clay is made by mixing water, toilet paper, white glue, mineral oil, and joint compound. This is why we need the drill with the mixer attachment.
Once the paper clay is dry, students will use the joint compound applied with a silicone spatula as a thin coat in a smooth application to make the surface of the sculpture as smooth as possible. Once the smooth surface finishes, the students will use acrylic paint to paint the sculpture according to the specifications of that character.
