The resources that this proposal created was mind blowing. Having these tools far reached the original number of students it was supposed to reach. What it also gave the class a powerful drill that has been used several times. It is a valuable tool in an art class. The impact can be measured in success and productivity. I'll say that it brings kids of all backgrounds to an even playing field when it comes to having access to materials and a sense of ownership. Each student gets a canvas bag which they decorate with a pop art style. \r\nThey start with applying gesso to the raw canvas to seal it to be ready to use for the paint markers to be applied. The students will also apply a spray protective varnish to protect the surface. Many of our students, who come from low-income backgrounds, these expenses can create significant barriers as they begin this exciting new chapter.\r\nThanks to your technology donations, we were able to provide students with resources that will directly support their academic success. During our Decision Day celebration, students had the opportunity to enter a raffle for laptops, headphones, tablets, printers, and other technology items that will help them navigate college coursework and stay connected to campus resources. Watching the excitement unfold was one of the highlights of my role as a College Advisor. As I drew names from the raffle box, the space filled with cheers, laughter, and genuine joy. First, it makes the responsible and accountable for their materials. Before the pouch, students were losing their materials and asking for replacements at an unsustainable pace. Now, the students worked on making and decorating a canvas pouch and a set of drawing supplies were given to them individually. \r\n\r\nThis has made a big difference in having ownership and the responsibility that it comes with. Every 2 weeks, I do a pouch check where I inspect their pouch for their supplies. Having the cardboard cutters made a huge impact. No matter how complicated their shape needed to be, they knew they could rip it with the cardboard knifes. It literally works like a handsaw.
