Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

As a math teacher, it can be challenging to get students involved in their learning and model their thinking on the board. Going up to the front of the classroom can be a scary thought and draws many students back from participating. With this in mind, a great way for students to get involved and not have to get up in front of the whole class is to have a traveling tablet, like an iPad, that I can use to display notes and examples on the board, while being able to walk around and talk at the same time. And at the same time, instead of students going up to the board, I can bring the board to them. This will encourage higher engagement and allow the students to truly model how they think and solve the math problems, which is key to mastery of the content.

My students are in 6th grade, so the transition from elementary to middle school hits them big time.

They come in being very timid and scared. A lot of my students are from low socioeconomic status and some come from immigrant families. Therefore, education is not a priority at home for some of them. It is my hope to inspire, motivate, and encourage them to be an active learner and to teach them to love learning.

With this iPad, iPad keyboard, and iPad pencil, I believe and know that I can make a difference in instruction for my students and I know that it will encourage students to be participants rather than spectators in their education. Please help me make a difference in the education of my students.
