My Students
Do I really know what is happening in the homes of my students? No. I simply don't. I know that some of them have parents who have been laid off, which means money is an issue right now. Some have two parents who are working, which means they are left alone all day. Some have families they don't get along with and this is a terrible time for them.
Every situation is as unique as every student.
I hope I can find a way to help each of them through this difficult time.
My Project
Have you seen the IF/THEN Collection website? It is an amazing resource for students to learn about different STEM careers and the diverse women who are in those different careers right now. I know I will be using this website a lot for students to research careers they are interested in. To start with, though, I thought it would be fun to have them complete a hands-on activity. This is also a great STEM activity that students can complete at home while we are distance learning to start the year.
Each student will receive the materials needed to make their own holograms using a phone.
Students with access to the internet will be given the link to watch the Mission Unstoppable DIY: Make a Hologram with Your Phone video. Directions will be printed for those without internet access.
The extension activity will be for students to create their own video to create a hologram. They will share their video with the class!
