At my school, we worry about the students who might fall through the cracks. These are the students who don't qualify for support from a Special Education teacher or a Resource Specialist, but need more than the regular ed. classroom teacher can give them. We want to give as many students as we can that extra plaster to fill the cracks in their learning bridge.
The goal of our Reading Intervention Program is to create life long learners through positive support from our highly qualified team of teachers and support staff.
We achieve this on a daily basis through a variety of educational materials, online programs, and reading strategies. One of the items the students who come to the reading lab could benefit from are chrome books. We are currently using desktops that are about sixteen years old.
Our school is a one of two k-6 grade rural elementary schools, in a small district. These two schools feed into one middle school, which feeds our one high school. There are approximately 420 students enrolled in our school. Our school's culture varies from income, to job status, to nationality.
My Project
Adding chromebooks to our reading intervention lab is like adding frosting to a birthday cake. We have paper, we have pencils, we have a knowledgeable teacher and three supportive paraprofessionals. We even have students who want to improve their reading. What we need are six up to day chromebooks that won't fail, freeze, or shut down unexpectedly.
Let's create fluent readers together with the use of modern chromebooks.
When table top computers become tired, chromebooks are the answer. Our students are familiar with chromebooks so we won't need to give them instruction on their use. We will give them support.
