My Students

I teach two classes of fourth grade math on the south side of Chicago, IL. My students are bright, creative, and a ton of fun! I love being able to teach them math because I get to see how their brains work to solve problems. Every day they come up with ideas I never would have thought of. Many students begin fourth grade nervous about math. I get to help them grow into confident mathematicians by honoring their unique problem-solving strategies and celebrating their mistakes as well as their successes. My students work hard every single day, and deserve the best of the best!

My Project

These materials are all geared toward student engagement. Students will use the speaker during our math talks when they use the Qball to share their strategies. The Qball motivates everyone to share their ideas. Even the quietest students will be able to be heard and want to participate.

Students love getting out of their seats, so the clipboards will allow students to move around while having easy access to their work.

The magazine holder will give us an organized place for students to be able to retrieve the clipboards on their own.

All of my students love to use dry erase markers to show their work. I will use the dry erase roll to put stickers on each student desk and each student will also get a marker. This way students will always have access to a dry erase spot to work out problems right at their seat!

Lastly, students will use the fraction magnets in small groups and centers. The visual piece not only increases student engagement, but also student understanding.
