Help me give my students 4 portable piano keyboards so that all students are playing on a working piano for music class.

My Students

Newcomer schools across the country serve some of the most fragile students in our schools. Many of these students have already struggled through circumstances we all wish no children had to endure. And when they start school in the United States, while language can be the biggest obstacle for them, there are typically many other barriers that can get in their way as well.

Students at our school have all been in our country for less than a year and they are at our school because they speak little to no English.

While teaching them to speak English, we also teach them content such as math, science, social studies, music, art, phys ed, etc. Our students ​ love learning just like all children do and we are always on the lookout for more ways to support them in their learning.

When our students come to music class, they find that music truly is a universal language. They love my class where I focus on instruments such as ukuleles, Orff instruments, drums, and we also have a rock band program that includes drumset, electric guitar, bass, and keyboards!

My Project

In the Newcomer Music room, we currently have 4 piano keyboards that are missing 1 or more keys. Many of our keyboards are more than 20 years old so they are starting to break down quite a bit and replacement parts can no longer be found or they are too expensive to fix.

Students become very frustrated when they are trying to practice and play a song but the keys they need are missing.

This project will solve this problem by replacing 4 keyboards that have missing keys with 4 new keyboards. The new keyboards are also smaller and more portable.
