This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
Walking into our school, you will find a diverse group of kids. Many of my students are English language learners, which means they are learning how to read, write, and speak English.
Our classroom is in an urban environment, filled with kids from all walks of life.
We are a Title I school, and our whole school gets free breakfast and lunch. I have a few students with troubled homes, which makes me work harder to create an environment where every child feels safe and able to learn the skills necessary to be ready for middle school and beyond.
My Project
Do you have memorable books from when you were a kid? Have you ever started a series and then found out one of the books went missing? Isn't that awfully disappointing? This is how my students feel when they begin a series in my classroom and book or two has gone missing.
Even with the utmost care in keeping track of our classroom books, inevitably some go missing.
That is why I am in need of some replacement books and series. My students seem to gravitate to trending series and love to read them.
Many high interest series stretch my students' reading level. Although it may be a challenge for them, my students continue to read and focus because these types of books foster a love of reading. As result, students improve their comprehension.
