My Students

My class consists of 26 Kindergarten students, with varying levels of academic abilities, and behaviors towards school. This class has been without a classroom teacher for majority of the 2019 school year. They have been taught by different substitute teachers and lack procedure and routine. However, they are eager to learn and read!

This classroom library will help build a community around literacy.

Our school is very diverse, but all of our kindergarten students come to school excited to learn and play each day! They attend a Title I school in an urban setting where the community and parents want what is best for students. However, not all parents are able to financially support their children's education, including providing their children with appropriate texts. It is important for children to have accessible and authentic text in order to become successful readers.

My Project

A class library is an essential part of developing children's literacy skills. This classroom library will help form a sense of community centered around literacy. Along with a library of leveled children's books, this class library will help students begin a positive relationship with books.

With this classroom library, students will be able to read independently and practice beginning literacy skills in authentic ways.

This classroom library will help students learn how to love reading. The shelving units will house instructional and authentic texts provided by myself and the school. Thank you for your support! This library will mean a lot to my students.
