Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom is a second home for both myself and my students. We come together in this home to learn, teach, grow, and keep each other safe. I want my students to leave at the end of the year with a new found respect and understanding of how important their education is. I want to make a difference!

The students at my school are awesome.

They are energetic, eager to learn, and have a positive attitude toward their education. Every morning my students come in with a smile on their face, ready to learn something new. Unfortunately, the students that attend our school are from very low income families. They are bussed in from surrounding areas where poverty is a huge problem. I have had a few students this year alone who have been designated as homeless because they've been evicted or live out of a car. Some of my students don't even have shoes that fit them or a jacket that will keep them warm. Most have a parent still living in Mexico, while a single parent is here trying to provide for their children. Even though, they face all of these hardships, they smile through the day and love school. They inspire me everyday to come to work and teach no matter how I feel because they face issues that are harder than I can ever imagine and yet they still make it to school each day.

My Project

The items I am requesting are out of reach due to cost. If I could get a small group set of iPads and headphones, I could use them as a rotation group and students would be able to listen to stories, practice fluency, play academic challenging games, develop a love for literacy, learn how to use and respect technology, etc. There are so many ways these devices can be used in the classroom. I envision these iPads being used daily by students who may never get another chance to use them at home. I'm also asking for books because my classroom library is very low and I want my students to have access to as many different books as possible. I want them to develop a love for reading like I had when I was younger and in order to do that, I want to provide them with a diverse set of books to peak each individuals interests. I'm asking for the Allowance game to practice money skills and a group teaching center to use when I'm doing classroom rotations. Storage box is to keep it all safe!

These items I am requesting are for my students to have access to in order to enhance their education further.

I cannot begin to express how much I would appreciate these items being donated so that I can fulfill my dreams of providing my students with items to help them learn and grow. I want my classroom to have anything and everything to aid in developing a love for education from a young age.
