Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
This year has been my first year teaching and so far it has been amazing! In my second grade class, there are 27 students and they are full of personality and excitement to learn! Since I am a first year teacher, the supplies and resources in my room are very limited and I am hoping to fill my class with exciting tools and materials for my students to use in order to experience more hands on learning.
The majority of my class learns best with hands-on activities and from first hand experiences (as most young children do!).
I am eager to give these kiddos accessibility to these experiences and learning opportunities. More than half of the students at our school are from low-income homes and getting donations can be a struggle. I believe that with the help of donors, my kiddos will be given an amazing opportunities to learn and become excited about school!
My Project
In order for my students to adequately learn about the life cycle of birds, I believe it would be most helpful and engaging for my kiddos to watch birds grow and hatch from an egg in real time! In order to do this, I will need an incubator for my class.
Instead of watching videos, doing worksheets, and learning from a distance about animal life cycles, I think it would be an unforgettable experience for my students to learn about this in a hands on way with access to real animals.
Being able to do this in real time will engage students and give them a true and realistic understanding of how long it takes for birds to grow and hatch!
