My students need bean bags to help make reading more comfortable and engaging. We have monthly Reading Marathons where we rotate students on the few bean bags we have. It's a fun incentive for them!

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
Every morning, our 6th graders walk into our ELA class buzzing and energetic, ready to learn. They come with questions, deep insights, and bright ideas. Many of our students read below grade level, which undoubtedly affects their desire and motivation to read. As we all know, reading is fundamental.
Living in what was once considered "the poorest congressional district in the country", otherwise known as the South Bronx, our students face more challenges than some people we may know.
Our school serves a population where 95%+ of the students receive free lunch and come from low-income neighborhoods. Despite the challenges they may face outside of our walls, they give school their all and try their hardest every day.
My Project
Sitting in the standard school chairs and desks doesn't help some of my students get into their reading, as they often are uncomfortable. These bean bags will provide an incentive for our students to enjoy our monthly Reading Marathons and our independent reading time.
Having the bean bags to lay and sit on will help make the reading environment comfy and cozy for even our most reluctant readers!
Our classroom is decorated well with pineapple decorations, bright colors, and art. Now we want to decorate it with bean bag chairs to really make it a welcoming classroom for all of our kids!
