Welcome to my classroom! I have the pleasure of teaching spirited and smart middle school kids with significant intellectual and physical disabilities. My AMAZING students LOVE to come to school! They work hard each day to communicate and participate as much as they can. They require hands-on assistance with all daily living skills, as well as medical support, throughout their school day. I work with a dedicated group of instructional assistants, nurses, specialists, and peer buddies, to make our classroom a safe, welcoming, and productive experience for all learners.
As the leader of our classroom team, my goal is to inspire and empower my students, their families, and my colleagues to see what our students CAN do.
Some of my students have identified conditions such as cerebral palsy, Angelman syndrome, deaf-blindness, etc, while others remain undiagnosed.
As their teacher and their advocate, I don't focus on labels, but rather on the strengths, needs, and interests of the individual. As part of our district's Specialized Healthcare program, my classroom is a place for students to engage in meaningful educational, vocational, and therapeutic experiences. Thank you for helping us reach our goals!
My Project
My students may arrive at school in wheelchairs and strollers, but we are constantly supporting their need to get up and MOVE, in any way they can. Some of my students can bear their own weight as they learn to stand and walk in adapted equipment. Others may have medical concerns that require a more creative approach to movement and respite from their chairs. Either way, for the sake of their physical and emotional health, we are constantly looking for ways to motivate our students to gain and maintain any independence they can!
My students need these requested small safety mirrors and healthy habits handwashing mirrors for highly motivating, multi-sensory input, as they diligently work to learn how to move their bodies and gain independence.
These high-quality safety mirrors will give my students the meaningful visual cues they need.
Whether they are stretching on therapy mats, taking steps between activities, grasping and standing during personal care tasks, or swinging in our sensory room, our students are more engaged with movement opportunities when mirrors are present. I was given two of these mirrors years ago by a classroom parent. They are fantastic quality and will hold up for years to come. We have several key locations within our new classroom where I'd like to install additional mirrors at this time.
Thank you for helping our students MOVE and learn in any way they can. Movement lights up the brain and mirrors get us moving!!!
