We stay busy in preschool with 3 and 4 year old students. We work hard to help students learn how to communicate, stay with a group, and participate in activities. Students learn that learning is fun!
The students in our class are excited to learn!
Many of these students have a disability and corresponding IEP. We work with kids with autism, down syndrome, speech delays, cerebral palsy, and other developmental delays. In addition to participating in the preschool curriculum, students receive speech and language therapy, motor therapy (occupational therapy and physical therapy), behavior support, and/or academic support.
My Project
Mirrors are great for preschool classrooms! We have an old acrylic mirror that is scratched and parts have worn away. We need to replace it so we can use it during our day.
Students love looking at their reflections in a mirror.
They learn about different ways they can move their face and body. They learn what different emotions look like and can imitate those expressions as they look in a mirror. A set of handheld, shatterproof mirrors will enable a group of students to participate in activities with mirrors at the same time.
We use a mirror in the dramatic play area to help our students to see how dressing up changes how they look. We work to increase their vocabulary as we talk about the different clothing items, colors, textures, and patterns. We also want to use mirrors in the science area to allow students to look at objects in different ways. This exploration also allows teachers and students to talk about what they see and the changes that happen as an object moves.
